Hi Everyone,
Week 4, I cannot believe it.
I look back at the last blog and it seems a like a lifetime ago. So much happens in our lives in such a short period of time.
Nic…well he is told the goals as we go along and he blows them out of the water consistently.
On Monday Nic did have his swallow test, a barrium type drink and bread with barrium paste (OMG)…it glows through an xray and went exactly where it was supose to go…into his throat and not his lungs. He was awarded with a much anticipatedvanilla milkshake from McDonalds. He had 2 tastes of it, then a long sleep.
On Wednesday March 7th we where kicked out of Intensive Care. The nurses and Doctors where very happy to see us leave…they where all so wonderful behind those big closed doors.
The ventilator has been off since last Friday and he is doing very well. We heard his voice the last couple of days in ICU by putting our finger over his trache hole. I got an “I love you mom”, and he asked Mitchell, “Where is my Dr. Pepper?”
He was moved into a step down room with 4 beds and 2 nurses. He was there for Wednesday and Thursday.
So he can eat! Woohoo..then he tasted the hospital food, that was not a hit.:( So momma made her way to the new Loblaws at the Maple Leaf Center! Crazy cool place…and we cook for him now. Now it’s a balance of him eating and until he eats enough (or has an appetite) and they continue top him up through his feeding tube.
They corked him Friday, which means he has a cap over his trache and that allows air to travel up into his mouth, nose and voice box. He talks now all the time. It’s a good thing really…no really 🙂
On Friday night they moved him to his final room. 4 beds 1 nurse and a nurse in training.
Time to get outta here.
In order to apply to Lyndhurst Spinal Cord Rehabilation, we have to be corked for 48 hours (Ok done that) have the trache out (this week) and start eating more.
Tomorrow they will assess his tracheotomy site and perhaps take it out all together. If not tomorrow, this week sometime.
We as always will figure it out…and we will always be together. <3
But right now I have to take Nic outside for a stroll…it’s beautiful in Toronto Today!
Warmly,
Tammy

Wow great news Nic You have become such a stong young man from when I remember you most, a little boy! Keep growing and healing. Sounds like you are up to some remarkable things with lots more to come!
Tammy, the progress is amazing, I am a believer in if you want to acheive, you can do it…make it happen…all the best to you and your boys…and extended family….the walkers…neighbors of the Lewis’s….our thoughts and prayers are with you….
Hey there, lady!
Just read this week’s update, and I think Nic’s doing really well (and I think he has a very tough mama).
I keep thinking about how strong you have all been, and how many changes you’ve been through in such a short period.
You’ll get there. Just hang on while the ride’s in motion.

Great to hear everything is going so smoothly you had all of us down in Halifax worried about ya. Hope things continue going well and hope you feel much better soon.
Dear Tammy,
We all pray for the best recovery for Nic!!!
Back in 2001 we had so many great hours together and both of your sons are precious gifts. However thet are also giftet with a loving, strong and very special mother 🙂
Eric just had a heart surgery due to endocardit so we can definately relate to all of those hospital hours.
Great Web page set up.
If you and your boys should come to Europe please let us host you for a stay with family fun and sight seeing.
Please say hallo and give big hugs to Nic from us all. He is so cool and easy to care for.
Love from Elisabeth & Family
It’s so wonderful that you are providing all of us with these updates. I’m thrilled with Nic’s progress, and have nothing but admiration for you Tammy in the strength, encouragement and most of all, the love you have shown. I am praying that Nic will see a full recovery. I’m not that far away if you feel that you could take some time for yourself, even if it’s just lunch.
Love and hugs to you all!!
