Hi Everyone,
My first Blog…who would have thought it would be something so life changing.
I want to let you all know that Nicolas is in the best spinal cord injury hospital in Canada. The St. Michael’s Doctors and Staff are incredible. He got here so quickly that he is doing very well.
I have prayers going all over this continent and I know God loves my boys and I and he will give us our miracle. Just alot of challenges…
This is going to take time…alot of time. He will be in ICU for a month or 2, he needs to learn how to breathe on his own. His diaphragm rocks apparently, so we know he will breathe on his own.
He was hit at the c5 vertibrae, it went into his spinal cord. His breathing is controlled by C3,c4,c5.
If you are hit at c1, c2 you may not survive.
His shoulders are moving as are his arms. All c4.
He is moving his wrists with extention and turning. Great progress.
He is scheduled for another surgery to fuse his neck again. His ligaments in his neck no long support his head, so they will be putting in more hardware to do that. We have been waiting 2 days, it is a very busy hospital.
Then another surgery to put in a tracheotomy , this will get the stupid tube out of his throat…he hates the tube! This will give him time to learn how to cough and be able to get rid of his phlegm in his chest. His diaphragm needs to be re-taught.
Through all of this we found out he has a hole in the chamber of his heart. This has caused issues with his oxygen levels…the Docs are trying to figure it out.
I was on a cruise ship when I got the call from Leanne. I was surrounded by amazing people on that ship…and I would like to thank each and everyone of them for being so wonderful to me that day. It was the longest day in my life.
Leanne has been here with Mitchell until I could get back and stayed with us for days. There are no words to express my love and admiration for this woman…Truly our angel. We couldn’t survive without her in our life.
Julie my protector and friend is always near and helps me everyday with positive thoughts and love.
Brittany and Erin’s support for our family has always been with us. Such wonderful adopted daughters.
Both Mitchell and I are by his side everyday helping him be comfortable. Loving him like he has never been loved before. Nic is so happy to have his brother by his side.
Mitchell and I are staying across the street from the hospital for now. Our short term plans are to sell our home in Muskoka and find something closer to the city to help Nicolas through his rehabilitation.
But for now we are planning a 17th Birthday Party for my little man. February 21st…and he is very excited….probably because he thinks Mitch and I decided to get him an IPAD. He would be right!
Thank you all for your love, support and prayers.
We are blessed, Nic is alive and is still Nic…the rest we will figure out 🙂
