How far have we come?
This is a picture that Mitchell took the first week Nic was in ICU. I couldn’t post it back then, it was way too scary. I wanted to keep everything positive and Nic protected, and this would have let you all know just how Big this was. I remember Nicolas skyping his friend, and her face told Nicolas the degree of Big we were in.
So now we know this is life changing. And all the happy pictures are being posted and friends are visiting and the critical part of our life is over. Thank heavens! We are moving forward now…and we still have no idea of what our future holds or what it looks like. I received a touching email yesterday who has been in our world, and quoted “I always felt like I was in a totally different world – one where life, no matter what the limitations, was worthwhile.”
But we do know that Nicolas determination has not ceased. He wouldn’t go out to a restaurant until he learned how to feed himself…so in 20 minutes he had a Mars Bar under control and scooped up pieces of candy from a bowl.
Let’s go out for Wings! So off we wheeled down Sutherland Drive with Brady (his roomate) Mitchell, Brittany and Mom to Shoeless Joe’s. He looks much older in a Wheelchair!
It is so quiet here on Weekends!
Chenza and Fausto came to see us on Good Friday…we laughed and giggled about old times. And Bobbi and Matt came on Easter Monday, such a great visit. I was kicked out when his friends David, Sam and Matt came, but didn’t take it personally 🙂
I went back to Muskoka to do the whole get caught up on stuff while Erin did the NIC-Y sitting. The things you can get done in 2 days!
It is bittersweet to be home now. When I am home I want to be in Toronto. Cleaning out things like closets and garages, knowing that life will never be what we once knew here. The puppies go to the end of the driveway the same time every day…waiting and watching for Nic to walk down the road from the bus. I think this trip home I actually took the time to feel the change. And then I thanked God that I have Nicolas, Mitchell, David, my friends and family in my life…smiled and moved on.
I have been living around the corner, house sitting for a very kind friend (Thank you Patty for everything!) And yesterday I confirmed an apartment through a friend of Julie’s. (She is always looking after me!) Luckily it is a month to month rental, as they are wonderful and accommodating just like most of the people I meet along this journey.
Nicolas would like to say a special Thank you to 5 year old Andrew Dussault from Huntsville for his thoughtful card and beautiful art. Nic bought skittles with your gift. As I said wonderful people (even the little ones) are everywhere 🙂
He’s still wiggling those toes! I’m gonna learn to videotape!
I have made arrangements to come to the Fundraiser, you all have been so incredible, so kind that I need to come and hug you and Thank you for all that you have done for my family. Please bring Kleenex 🙂
Warmly,
